Chapter Fifteen

Lucy was normally a patient person, but Niall had already stopped her from wandering into her kitchen and peeking inside the cooler a dozen times. She bit back a groan and put down the book she was reading, frustration clawing at her mind as time trickled by like molasses in the middle of winter. “This is killing me, Niall.”

“Then let me distract you.” Niall put up a finger to stop her complaints and silence her, his look stern. “And before you glare at me again, that’s not what I meant.”

She glared at him anyway, and yet…there was a small pang of disappointment that he wouldn’t be getting her naked. Knowing full well what that mouth, those hands, that body, were capable of, how could she not be at least a little disappointed?

He set aside his book and leaned towards her from his end of the sofa, closing the distance between them. “You’re thinking dirty thoughts, sweetness. I can see it written all over your face. I’m happy to oblige you—and there’s nothing I’d like more than to make you come, especially if it’ll help keep your mind off the paper. However, my original thought had been to go grab dinner and a pint. Maybe even head off the island for a bit.”

They’d completed the search of her desk with nothing else of interest, and with Morgan off to get a head start on his job in Portland, it was just the two of them once more. “Maybe getting off the island wouldn’t be a bad idea, because I sure as hell am not going to sleep with you.”

He let out a laugh while shaking his head. “Sweetness, you keep telling yourself whatever it is you need to hear, but we both know that eventually I’m going to get you naked again—and you’re going to love every moment of it.”

“In your dreams, pirate boy.” She did her best to say it like she meant it, but she knew there was little chance of fooling him. To shift his focus away from the obvious effect he had on her and her horny little body, she got to her feet. “You don’t have to join me if you don’t want to, but I’m going to take a peek at the paper again, and see how it’s doing.”

She wandered into the kitchen and popped the lid on the cooler. “What do you think?”

Squatting down to get a better look, Niall carefully touched the paper. “You may very well be in luck. Let’s have a look then.”

With the rolled piece of paper on the clean kitchen counter, he slowly and gently started to unroll the paper, pausing from time to time when he looked uncertain. Her heart was in her throat as her pulse raced out of control, and she swore, if it wasn’t the map, she’d scream.

“Well, well…what do we have here?” Niall’s grin couldn’t get any wider, and if he hadn’t been holding the paper flat so she could look at it, she would have thrown her arms around his neck and kissed him.
